Kathleen Last -
$60 Million PowerBall® Jackpot Winner –
03/07/2012
After almost a month of waiting, the winning $60 million PowerBall® ticket has
been claimed. Kathleen Last, a long-time resident of
Smithfield,
RI, appointed attorney, Edmund Alves, to claim the $60
million winning ticket on her behalf in the name of the Ohana Trust. She plans
to use the money to take care of her large extended family, which is why she
used the Hawaiian word for "family" as the name of the trust.
The winner has elected to take the cash option, so she will receive the lump sum
payment of $37,059,913 before taxes. The winning ticket was sold from Quickets
at
285 George Washington Highway,
Smithfield. She played five separate wagers on one
ticket. The winning numbers for the March 7 drawing were 12, 35, 45, 46, 47, and
the PowerBall® number was 12. According to her attorney, she "almost had a
stroke" when she realized she won, but is happy to be able to help her family
with the windfall, in particular a niece who is disabled.
